The Oakton iPad raffle is back!
We are holding a raffle to help raise money for field trips, assemblies, after and before school programs (think Chess Club and Flag Football among others), scholarships, and much more! Our goal is to raise $5,000 so we can continue to provide these services to our Oakton family.
If EVERY Oakton student sells just THREE raffle tickets, we will meet our goal! But the sky’s the limit, and the more money we raise, the more we can do for Oakton. Here are the details:
TICKETS COST $5 EACH OR 5 TICKETS FOR $20
RAFFLE PRIZE IS A BRAND NEW iPAD!!
Raffle prizes will be drawn at the “Globetrotting Cougars” fundraiser at Oakton School, Thursday, May 28. Winner need not be present to claim prize.
All tickets and money must be turned in by Friday, May 22. Highest seller receives a $50 gift card to the store of their choice. Grade with the most participants wins a pizza party!
Be sure to check your student’s backpack for their raffle tickets this Thursday, May 7. Contact Ellen Durston at ellen_almer at yahoo.com with any questions.
Thank you Julia Durango!
It was a pleasure to welcome Mrs. Julia Durango at our Oakton Elementary School last Wednesday as our visiting author for this school year – thank you!
Not to forget: Special thanks to Mrs. Bourke & Rebecca Seligman that made it all happen and to our parent volunteers that helped setting everything up.

Letter to teachers & staff:
Dear teachers, here’s a schedule of events, so plan accordingly:
Monday (On your way in, be sure to check out the chalk messages on the sidewalk near the front entrance): Breakfast in the teacher’s lounge, 8-11 a.m. This is a slight change from previous years, when we brought breakfast to you in the classroom. We hope this arrangement is more convenient for you. Come for bagels, fruit, and coffee (plus gluten-free and vegan options).
Tuesday: Afternoon snack in the teachers’ lounge. Stop by around 1:30 for an afternoon pick me up. Home made treats, trail mix, drinks, and more.
Wednesday: Look for a special gift, to be delivered to you by your students.
Thursday: Check your students’ backpacks for special notes and pictures, along with some school supplies to carry you through to the end of the school year.
Friday: Catered Lunch from Panino’s! Stop by the teachers’ lounge during your lunch period for a great spread, including chicken, pasta, salad, baked goods and of course, began and gluten-free options.
All week: Each morning, we will hold a drawing for two gift cards from your favorite coffee and lunch places.
Trust me when I say the PTA wishes we could do even more for you! We appreciate everything you do for our kids, and hope you enjoy this week!
Outdoor classroom for Oakton Elementary
We are happy to announce: Oakton will get an outdoor classroom at the end of June 2015!
To make it easy for classes to work outdoors and for teachers to integrate the natural world into the lessons, Oakton is installing an outdoor classroom space in the shade of our historic building with grand old trees and a direct view our school vegetable garden.
