Oakton 5th Grade Flag Football Team wins the Darrell Judon Sportsmanship Award for the 2015 season
Oakton Elementary School 5th Grade Flag Football Team wins the Darrell Judon Sportsmanship Award for the 2015 season – GO COUGARS!
The Darrell Judon Sportsmanship Award recognizes a 4th grade and a 5th grade Evanston Recreation flag football team that best represented and followed the ideals of good sportsmanship during the season–and recognizes not just the players, but the coaches, support volunteers, and families of the players as well.
The award was established in 1993 to honor Evanston native Darrell Judon, who participated in the program as a 4th and 5th grader at Dawes school. After finishing college, Darrell returned to Evanston and worked as a flag football referee and site coordinator for 4 years from 1989-1992. After Darrell’s sudden death at age 22 shortly after the end of the 1992 season, his fellow referees established this annual award to recognize the teams that best demonstrate the ideals of good sportsmanship that were important to both Darrell and the Evanston Recreation flag football league.

Letter to teachers & staff:
Dear teachers, here’s a schedule of events, so plan accordingly:
Monday (On your way in, be sure to check out the chalk messages on the sidewalk near the front entrance): Breakfast in the teacher’s lounge, 8-11 a.m. This is a slight change from previous years, when we brought breakfast to you in the classroom. We hope this arrangement is more convenient for you. Come for bagels, fruit, and coffee (plus gluten-free and vegan options).
Tuesday: Afternoon snack in the teachers’ lounge. Stop by around 1:30 for an afternoon pick me up. Home made treats, trail mix, drinks, and more.
Wednesday: Look for a special gift, to be delivered to you by your students.
Thursday: Check your students’ backpacks for special notes and pictures, along with some school supplies to carry you through to the end of the school year.
Friday: Catered Lunch from Panino’s! Stop by the teachers’ lounge during your lunch period for a great spread, including chicken, pasta, salad, baked goods and of course, began and gluten-free options.
All week: Each morning, we will hold a drawing for two gift cards from your favorite coffee and lunch places.
Trust me when I say the PTA wishes we could do even more for you! We appreciate everything you do for our kids, and hope you enjoy this week!
