Oakton PTA Fundraising Raffle 2016

Our 2016 PTA fundraising raffle was a HUGE success!

Last Thursday at the end-of-the-year picnic, school board member and Oakton parent, Omar Brown, picked our two winners. A 2nd place prize of a $50 Target gift card was chosen first, and then the big moment…for the brand new Apple iPad! Both prize winners were very excited! We would like to recognize Sandra Brown, Oakton grandparent and Weichert Realtors broker, for donating the iPad & gift card. We are grateful for such generosity!

Thank you to all the families who worked so hard to sell raffle tickets – we exceeded our goal and raised $6,500! A big shout out to our #1 ticket sellers – the Bilski sisters – who sold just shy of 300 tickets. Amazing! Several families sold 100+ tickets as well! And congratulations to the 1st Grade – who had the most participants. We hope you enjoyed your pizza party!

We are so happy that the Oakton PTA will start off next year strong and ready to continue providing fun and enriching activities for our whole community – such as picnics, program scholarships, club support (chess, chorus, running club) field trips, author visits, teacher appreciation week, edible garden and assistance with service projects such as ESCCA and the eye glass fund. We have a community to be proud of! Congratulations, and warmest appreciation for everyone’s hard work and support! Go Team Oakton!

Oakton PTA Edible Garden

A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers that joined us welcoming the Gardeneers and getting our Edible Garden ready for the season. The Gardeneers were on hand to help, as were a slew of parents, students, administrators, teachers, staff and community members. Evanston Community TV was conducting interviews. We are all excited to see what tasty treats our garden (now with newly installed art work throughout) will grow, and all that we can learn from it.

Many thanks to our local business sponsors for helping us to bring the Gardeneers to Oakton! If you or your business like to be a sponsor and have your name or logo displayed on our sponsor banner please email Alicia Aiken – Chair of Garden & Grounds Committee – at alicia.l.aiken at gmail dot com or give her a call at 224-520-2701

A BIG THANK YOU to our Master Gardener sponsor: CBRE Cares
and to the Lincolnwood Garden Club and Lando/Ribeiro family for your contributions that are helping us grow!

Thank you Tepic Landscaping for donating landscaping rocks for our caterpillar art!
Thank you Liza Mitchell for taking these awesome pictures and sharing them with us!

Oakton Running & Walking Club

Screen Shot 2015-09-12 at 8.36.06 AM

Dear Parents,

We are happy to announce that a group of Oakton staff and parents are starting a Running & Walking Club this school year and it is for FREE.

Our Goal

is to provide students with weekly fun fitness and running activities while students practice and track their running & walking mileage. We will be teaching the right way of breathing, warm-up and cool down exercises, alongside little fun facts about health and nutrition.

When?

The Running Cougars will practice every Tuesday from 8:15-8:45am, starting September 15th, 2015 and it will be open to ALL GRADES (Please note: all running team members need to arrive promptly). We will meet outside the main entrance and use the school grounds for our training. On rainy days, we will do fitness activities inside the school building.

Clothing & Gear

Running Cougars do not need fancy fitness gear for the club though a water bottle would be advisable.

Volunteers Needed

Parents who would like to walk or run with the students are more than welcome to attend. Please indicate if you like to volunteer on the form.

Health

Please make us aware of any specific health considerations for your child. If your child uses an inhaler for asthma or an epi-pen, please include that information on the registration form.

Questions? Please contact Mr. Murphy at murphyj@district65.net or Daniela Nelke at dcnelke@gmail.com
