Lunch
Lunch is available to all Oakton students, including milk. Children have a choice of either a hot entrée or a cold entrée. Please check out the districts Lunch Menu.
District 65 encourages that meal payments be made in advance. Click here for more information on how to pay for school lunches. Free lunch & reduce-price lunch is available for qualifying students. Please click here for more information on free lunch.
A “lunch count” is taken each morning by your child’s teacher. Children who do not choose to buy lunch at school must bring a lunch box or bag from home marked clearly with their name. Milk is available and can be purchased separately.
Several attendants monitor the lunch room and help younger students with tasks such as opening milk cartons and throwing away trash. Once every student received their lunch a 5-minute “chew-time” starts allowing the children to focus on chewing & eating and getting their nutrition while listening to music.
Recess
Lunch follows or precedes a 20-minute supervised outdoor recess. Kindergarten & 1st grade recess is held in the secured Kindergarten Courtyard – 2nd to 5th grade recess is held on the playground. We go outside for recess as often as weather permits so please be sure your student is dressed for the weather. During rain or once temperatures are below 20F recess will be held indoors in either the gym or the auditorium.
