In addition to monetary donations, which are always welcome (see the “donate now” button on our front page), there are other ways you can support PTA-sponsored programs:
Blessings in a Backpack
Led by first grade ACC teacher Claudia Braithwaite, Blessings in Backpack is a national non-profit group that helps keep needy students fed during the school year. At the beginning of the school year, students receive a backpack, which is then filled with food each weekend and returned empty on Monday.
In 2013, Blessings helped 114 Oakton students and their families. To contribute your time or money to this worthy cause, or to learn more, contact Ms. Braithwaite at braithwaitec at district65.net
DonorsChoose.org
Teachers can use this Website to create wish lists of items for their class rooms. Please visit DonorsChoose.org to find out what is on Oakton teachers’ wish lists.
Clothes 4 Charity Box
One of the simplest ways to help Oakton is by dropping your old clothes and unused household items into the blue drop box, located in the school’s parking lot. These donations are sold to resale shops, and Oakton receives a portion of the proceeds.
Book Donations
When you donate used children books, credit will be added to your child’s account. Once your child outgrows books, please consider donating them to Story Store. Your child will receive a credit of half of the selling price. There is a box for donations by the Story Store Closet; make sure to write your child’s name on the donation if you would like to receive credit.
Food Drives
Oakton hosts several food drives throughout the year, generally around holidays.
